As we move closer to the launch of the Blue Raven, our latest innovation in high-altitude flight technology, I'd like to take you on a behind-the-scenes look at its development process. In this article, we'll explore some of the design features and tradeoffs that have shaped the Blue Raven's creation.

A Ground-Up Redesign

The Blue Raven is not just an upgrade or a tweak to our existing Raven altimeter, but rather a ground-up redesign built around a more powerful microcontroller with Bluetooth capability. This significant improvement allows us to pack more features into a smaller form factor, making it compatible with all existing Raven av-bay accessories and capable of fitting into rockets as small as 24mm.

Four Output Channels

Like its predecessor, the Blue Raven comes equipped with four output channels, designed to share flight event criteria. However, our new microcontroller has given us more flexibility in designing these channels, allowing for a greater range of applications and use cases.

Flight Testing and User Interface

We're currently conducting flight testing this spring and summer, with the goal of releasing the Blue Raven for sale early this fall at a price comparable to the current Raven. To make it easier for users to interact with the device, we're investing in top-quality phone apps (Apple and Android) that will handle all user interfaces, including live data, deployment configuration, data download, and graphing.
